Feedback:

I have had American Family for about 3 years despite what I was told about American family. I thought maybe with me they would be different.. THINK AGAIN!! They are money hungry, they DO NOT CARE about their customers and the lady working there had NO clue on anything. Every thing she said I told her how she was wrong, just for her to tell me a different reason. I went to a small town agent, as I have been told the smaller town agents are more personal and treat their customers better. Over the 3 years there has been some late payments, but I ALWAYS paid my monthly bill. My due date is/was the 9th of every month. So today I went online to make a payment (before the due date) and that is when I seen that I had no active policy. So I called and was told I missed my August payment. This sounded strange to me as I ALWAYS pay so I started to look into it, and well I missed it some how.. between summer courses, 3 kids back to school, and mandatory over time I would say I was a little stressed the month of august. Which happens. I don't recall getting anything in the mail, they sent me the bill on July 9th, and said they called and left a voicemail.. They called a number that I updated online apparently the online system and they **local office system doesn't talk, so they didn't know I changed my number, Not sure how that is my fault. They claim they sent me a letter in the mail and I don't recall getting one.. The lady working pretty much said anything she could on the phone to make it seem "correct" I would then said why that was wrong and then she would give me another reason she believed was "right'. So, to reinstate the policy I would need to pay $152 for past due (which again no problem paying because that money is owed to them) plus a month in advance, and then my bill would go up to almost $300 which is close to a $60 increase before because it was terminated. So as any other would I told them I was going to call around to see if I could find anything lower. That is when they told me is fine, however, not having coverage would drastically make a difference in my quotes. So I called around and well they were right. I was advised that If I reinstate the policy that they can back date to the 27th when it was terminated. which they are unwilling to do. So with car insurance its monthly total is primarily based on coverage history this has now reset my history.. and every insurance company out there thinks I zero history which I will now have to pay ridiculous rates for the next 3 years to build a history again. I was told in the beginning that American Family was a terrible company to work with, and they were money hungry and don't care and today I finally see it. I however don't want to build a 3 year relationship with a company for them to screw me over and now start over. I do take partial blame as I missed the payment but American Family isn't taking any responsibility for this. Their system failed to update my phone number so they were calling the wrong one. Also, I feel that being a small office I have ALWAYS made a payment, so being my account was about to be terminated shouldn't they make that extra attempt to rectify my account. If I truly "didn't" want to pay, why would I be trying to make the September payment. I do not recommend American Family to anyone anymore. Brian Barth does not care about his consumers and his rates are extremely high.
