I would have given this two stars if it was not for a few good librarians they have at the Clairton library. I was born and raised here in Clairton, and spend many hours in the Clairton library when I was younger. I left Clairton many moons ago and am back here momentary for a few months. Its amazing this is not the polite librarians of my childhood. I can speak of color because I am a African American man. I went to the library to return some books, when I got to the counter there was no one there I waited 5 min, and there was a black woman on the computer I thought she was a patron and it turned out she was one of the librarians. She didn't say a word. I called out to see if there was anyone who could wait on me, and the woman on the computer said, Ill be with you in a moment. That is when I realized she was librarian, she was not working, she was on the computer after about 3 minutes I told her, "I have been waiting for almost ten minutes. I don't have much time." She up, got an attitude, didn't speak, gave me my items and left the counter and got back on the computer. Second time, same black woman. but this time she was on her cell phone, she looked at me and continued her phone call. Waited 5 min. I than said, "Is there anyone in here that is competent?" She got off her phone call and said, "Your very rude." I told her she was rude, her job is to do her job and wait on me. And she was breaking the rules, considering there are signs everywhere, saying no cell phones. There was no other patrons in the library at this time but me. I picked up my items and left. I talked to several people about this and they said they had similar experiences. Third time, thinking about the bad experiences I have had before, the long wait times and the rudeness I decided to throw my items in the drop box and than come in and pick up my item I ordered so I don't have to wait ten minutes and have to deal with rudeness. I walked in to pick up my items this other black woman says to me. "You put your items in the drop box." I said, Yes I did. She said why? I said, Why not? Its a drop box. She said, Why didn't you bring them in, I said, Because when I do, I have to wait ten min, and I have to deal with librarians with attitudes problems. Like I'm dealing with now. Its not her job to question why I used the drop box, Not unless I am lighting it on fire. Next time she ask me a silly question such as that I will ask here "How much she weight?" If she can ask me a silly question I can ask here a silly question. When they put a sign outside that says, I cannot use the drop box I will comply. Luckily, this very nice white woman who sometimes wait on me whenever they are not working, said, " I got your items over here." She knows me by face and she knows, I have been confronted by these woman before, she also knows I come up there to either return or pick up items. They need to respect everyone who comes into that library because they do not know who they might be waiting on. Might be someone who can cause them to be unemployed tomorrow. But thank you to the women who take their jobs seriously and treat everyone with respect.
