Feedback:

Franklin Academy is a wonderful place for students with a learning disability like myself. Franklin Academy has a tight knit and friendly community of staff and students and has helped me grow in many ways since I first started here and it has prepared me socially and academically and in other ways for life after Franklin including college and what may come after. If you are looking for a place that specializes with kids who have learning disabilities and who are on the spectrum I would highly recommend Franklin Academy.

Feedback:

I would go into this school with wary. Do your own HW. Do not blindly trust what admissions or anyone tells you PRIOR to them having your money. Franklin is actively looking to increase enrollment and will take in poor candidates that will soon after acceptance fail. Admissions and other head staff will lie to you and sell you this false hope about your child. I was there for grades 10-12 and see this all the time. At least a quarter of the school has left on bad terms by the end of the year. Very few people stay there longer than three years. High turnover on both staff and students. But for those that succeed there, there seems to be lifelong friendships made. With me, I had a poor 10th grade year. My 11th grade year was very good but they lied to me about my academics to get me into a more rigorous 12th grade program. They knew I had a really bad academic related learning disability but deliberately left that information out so I make a misinformed decision. I left halfway thru the year and eventually had to repeat 12th grade. I don't really stay in touch with anyone from Franklin. I would stay far away from Franklin if you have extensive academic or behavioral issues as Franklin does not tailor to this. For super super high functioning people with ASD only.

We found Franklin after a national search - it is a rare gem! Amidst very difficult middle school years, our son deserved to be educated by a team of experts who understood his unique learning challenges and recognized his gifts and strengths. Finding a high school that was the right fit was critical - to insure that he was nurtured and supported. I was confident in my heart that he was college bound, but first he needed to feel safe, to belong. From there he would, and he has, grown and excelled! Of course! Franklin has provided small, intimate academic and social experiences with expert understanding of how he sees the world and where he needs support and to be challenged. Academically, they offer curriculum that is flexible, responding to each students needs. As a junior, he is thriving in college level math courses and electives. The passion of the faculty is remarkable, the academic brilliance so impressive. The relationships inspire my son and his learning is passionate and joyful. This year is one of college tours and choices. Franklin has bridged his education from difficult middle school years to a student ready for college years at the best schools in the country. That's a good education!

Franklin Academy is a complicated school. It is mostly good, but has some flaws that get in the way of the experience. I am not the kind of girl who easily loves nor hates things so I just wrote the perfect mix. These are my thoughts. Pros:*Food: tastes great and accommodates dietary preferences. It is restaurant quality. *Small Campus: not too far to walk around. It would take ten minutes tops to get to every building. Perfect for people who are late and super lazy, which is most of the students. * Most Staff and Students: can be good people. It seems that each of them care for all of the students and wish us all the best. No bullies who seek to harm you like in other students. *Laundry service: Cleans fast and well. *No Roommates (unless in top level): What more do I have to say? Cons:*Lack of exercise or athletics: they have "life sports" that are lame and aren't real sports at all. The gym is almost empty and locked for most of the time. This is not good because exercise is crucial for certain people, especially those on the Autistic spectrum.* Academics: These just aren't challenging nor satisfying enough. It made me feel like I was back in elementary school. The only challenges are dealing with the annoying classes. People cause them to take so long and it is such a drag. I would rather have to work hard and have less annoying kids, then do easy work and have to deal with the most annoying people. *Lack of therapy: they have "counselors" who kinda help but aren't needed and sometimes can be counterproductive. They are nice people and wish the best for you, but they don’t do enough. My friend once compared talking to them to talking to brick walls and I pointed out that was offensive to brick walls.*Diversity: Franklin Academy is the least diverse place I have been to in many ways. Students are mostly white, New Englanders. This would be fine if they didn't constantly preach about how diverse they were and how their school represents America (it represents the 1% of Autistic people). There is nothing wrong with being white or from New England, so don't get offended. All in all, Franklin Academy is a great place and experience but it has issues that need to be addressed since they get in the way. I recommend you come if you have mild ASD but know that it is far from perfect. I hope this review gave you a new perspective.

PRE-REVIEW: Now, I know this isn't going to be that type of review where I've been there for so long and am now writing my thoughts about it. No, for now, I actually decided to write what I predict my overall experience will be before I actually start over my entire time there.Well, something I can go off of is the reviews that others have sent about this place, and most importantly, the way the school handled that. Like, it actually redefined how schools handled constructive feedback given to it for my definition. First and foremost, majority of reviews (except for the last 2 which are definitely not thought out, thus seeing no reply there) were almost 90% positive. This includes stuff like really good food for taste, and daily diets, people being nice in general, and the list goes on. And also replies from the school like, "Wow, this is a well thought out review, while maybe not having really impressive back up facts, certainly good ones nonetheless" have really proven to me that school actually CAN handle feedback from their student via something like this.

Feedback:

Franklin is a great school! The only thing is that the program won’t work if the student thinks that they do not need to change or are unwilling to accept feedback or make changes. A lot of people that end up hating it only hate it because they have to change behaviors and/or do challengeing things they have not had to do in the past. A lot of kids come into the school with a “poor me” attitude which can come from being very spoiled, and at franklin they are not going to get their way all the time. I never thought I would say I love learning, homework, and school but I was proved wrong.

Feedback:

Horrible scam! The staff had so little faith in me they forced the psychologist to put me on more medication to make me behave. They are not used to typical autistic behaviors and have no idea how to deal with them. Lack of after school or weekend activities is an issue and the staff are both teachers and residential so are overworked.
