I've been working with Jim Allen from Horace Mann since I was a first year teacher in 2008. We currently have life, auto, and home insurance as well as a 403b through them and have been so pleased. Mr. Allen is easy to get a hold of and willing to answer any questions we have. Their rates are very competitive and we wouldn't think of looking elsewhere for our insurance needs!

I have had Jim Allen as my insurance agent through Horace Mann insurance. He has always taken care of everything that I needed, in a prompt, courteous and professional manner. I would (and have) recommend him to any one of my friends and family.

My husband and I had Horace Mann insurance through the James Allen agency for many years. We had policies on our home and several vehicles. He never initiated contact with us (not even to thank us for our many years of loyalty with a calendar). Whenever we needed him, he did respond promptly. HOWEVER, we had to leave his agency and this is why. I always paid dutifully, and though I noticed the homeowner's premium creeping up every year, I thought it was a normal and reasonable increase (my fault). It was only when my neighbor, who has an almost identical house, told me what she was paying (roughly a third of our premium), that I realized I was paying way too much. We invited James Allen to our home, where he told us without apology that our home was being insured for three times its value, and that in the event our home was destroyed the replacement would be only at the appraised value. Even though I should have been more vigilant about the cost of the premium, it is unconscionable that he would, or would even be allowed to, charge three times what our house is worth. Needless to say, we took the case to Horace Mann Insurance Company, but they credited us only a fraction of our thousands of dollars of overpayment. I'm not saying that you shouldn't use his business, but if you do, make sure you review your policy with him annually.
