Feedback:

Great place to work!

Feedback:

OTIS tricked me into agreeing on a previous contract on a building I purchased. They would not let me out of it and it is for 5 years. You pay a fee for nothing and their customer service is terrible.

Great company

Less than two (2) years ago we had an Otis GEN2 elevator installed in our brand new facility. Although the concept looks good in the brochure, without a good installation, you will end up with an extremely high maintenance product. Not only does the elevator require clean installation, it also requires skilled technicians, both of which Otis Canada in Alberta is unable to provide. Since our elevator has been in service, we have had one entrapment (The tech showed up after 4:30pm, reset the governor, no parts were used and the technician couldn't tell me why the governor tripped. We received an invoice for $1,016.36) and multiple occasions where the elevator went rogue, taking its passengers to the basement (Otis was never able to figure out why), only to clear itself and work fine for several weeks before doing it again. The last time I allowed Otis into our facility was when the elevator shut down and took the car to the top floor and opened its doors. Since there is a limit to characters with Google Maps, let me just say it was another costly gong show! $2,117.42. Keep in mind that this elevator had only been in service for 14 months at this point. It was clear to us that the Otis technicians being sent to our facility were extremely inexperienced and were only proficient in filling out a time sheet, leaving us no other option but to seek out another elevator company to fulfill our maintenance needs. Our new elevator maintenance contractor (another worldwide elevator contractor) started maintaining our elevator and has actually cleaned up a serious quality control issue with the wiring inside the control panel, which resembles the messy of rats nest. (see attached photo) Some refer to this level of poor wire management as a "hack job". After 4 hours of rewiring the panel, not only does the panel look like a professional wired it, we are no longer having the issue of the car going taking passenger's to the basement for no reason. As it turns out, there were wads of low voltage wiring running directly across the control panel, and the electrical signal given by these unshielded wires at times was causing the panel to get confused and send the car to the basement. The latest issue we have had with our Otis GEN2 elevator is the drive motor bearings are failing, making a serious squealing noises and will need to be replaced. The elevator has only been in service since March 2015, is lightly used and only stops at three (3) floors. Are you serious?!? This is a major repair. There is no reason why these bearings, under these conditions, shouldn't last 20 years or more. When I contacted the regional manager (Dave McCoy) and told him how his elevator has been performing and he was quick to push back, saying that we should have never let another contractor into their (Otis) elevator and insinuated that any damage could be due to the other contractor's incompetence.A good company is not in a name, it is in good people, something Otis Canada is obviously lacking here in Alberta. We will not be using them for ANY of our elevator needs anytime soon
