Can't beat your own island.

If you show up prepared, then camping here is an awesome experience for kids. The journey to the campsite is half the fun and it increases the thrill of primative "wilderness camping". Getting a site on Middle Saranac Lake increases that effect. The manually operated upper locks impressed the kids.It is too bad that motorcycles and trucks can still be heard from many of the campsites during the night. Also, I was surprised by how much light pollution still obscured viewing the stars near the horizon. At least you can see the milky way.

Feedback:

DO NOT JUMP FROM BLUFF ISLAND!!!! This campground is perfect and was a wonderful experience; my only complaint is that there is no warning sign at the peak of Bluff Island, where cliff jumpers are common. I followed suit and jumped on 9/9/18, shattering my L1 vertebra from simply not landing perfectly straight (which is hard to do from 55 feet). What saddened and angered me is the paramedics said this type of injury is very common here. WHY IS THERE NO WARNING SIGN??? Please, before you jump, understand that more height=higher velocity=harder impact=broken bones. I am lucky to not be paralyzed or dead (the rock face juts out pretty far). I will be in a back brace for a while, and the vertebra will take about a year to completely heal. I am trying to contact the park manager about the sign problem.

Feedback:

This is wilderness camping at its finest. I took my employees here for a weekend camping trip, and we loved it. The lake is beautiful, the scenery is amazing, and the campsites are mostly very nice. Pack light, because you have to paddle for a while, but it's worth it!

Feedback:

Boat access camping only. Camped here for many years. Best spot for small semi private beaches and wide spread site locations. Hike Amperstand at least twice in your lifetime. If you want peace and relaxation, this is the place. Real wilderness with town only 10 mins away from the park marina. Deer, bear, bever, and bald eagles. Ask around about boat shuttle service at the local marina. The best kept secret in town. You boat out in peace and arrive to camp with your gear waiting for you. Any price is worth it, especially group camping. Wild loon calls, stars, sunsets, clear sky's, and beauty all around. Bring at least one set of cold weather cloths if camping late summer, temps drop to 40's some nights. Another hint here, pack smart and pack lite as well. Enjoy.

Feedback:

Beautiful area we have been coming to for almost 20 years! Love it!

Feedback:

I have used the boat ramp and parking here many times for my Lower Saranac lake fishing adventures. Excellent launch ramp and parking! Paul Smiths College provides boat inspections for invasive species to help minimize bad aquatic plants getting into the lake. A great access point. Great fishing too.

Get an island and enjoy!

Feedback:

fantastic camping experience, loons calling at night, if you canoe watch for wind conditions.

Feedback:

On a Sunday night we were out on Lower Saranac and our motor boat conked out. No other boats were around to help. We called the Second Pond Camp and Cody (who works for the DEC) was there in 10 minutes with an emergency battery pack. We got back to the Marina just as it was getting dark, thanks to Cody -- who was so friendly and helpful -- and thanks to the DEC!
