When an officer lies to the public; community support is weakened and policing agencies can not operate to its fullest potential. My grandfather owned a lake house at Monck's Corner when I was a child and I use to have fond memories of Monck's Corner and its surrounding areas. My mother is buried close by St Stephen. My son rode through St. Stephen after a rodeo and was stopped on his way back home to North Carolina. I am not taking up for my son but I encourage all policing agencies to follow the Constitutional guidelines in stop and seizure. That officer should had NEVER looked in my trunk without my permission ,,,never without probable cause,,,and don't lie to ANY defendant during the process. The first prong of reasonable suspicion was not there either for the officer ordered my son out of the car and begun searching it without consent or a search warrant. Next time get a warrant. IF contraband is in plain view,, I can go with a legal search but plain view did not involve my trunk. Make sure plain view is just that because plain view would not be held up in court of law as being inside a close ash tray late at night. A reasonable police officer would not be able to see that because humans do not have x-ray eyes. In my mind there is no way that officer could had been able to explain to a reasonable judge to obtain a legal search warrant because they thought a crime was committed. That is the law not coercion using the uniform. These are behaviors a reasonable person would expect from ANY law enforcement agency. The officer told my son just show up for court and I will help you several times during the stop. My son asked him in front of the judge why did he lie to him and he just threw up his hands and smiled. I would had respected the officer if he had said, " Judge, I had promised to help this young man but there is nothing I can do" instead of holding up his hands and smiling when my son called him on his lie in front of the judge. But my son trusted in the officer's word at the stop because my son was raised with ethics in holding true to his words. My son was stopped for speeding but was he really speeding? Profiling a Chrysler 300 with big rims is not justification. If so, I should had been profiled in my BMW while I was there with him at court. My son didn't give the officer a hard time even when I feel Constitutional laws were broken because I trained him to RESPECT the law. I just wish my son told me about this before court and NOT the day of court,, his choice would had been different in resolving the charge. He just didn't want to let me down,, but this time he didn't, the system did in how they carried out their duties.

its pretty cool they can drive on the opposite side of the road and clock you while they are driving. I like that technology. I just wish you could pay online.
