This is a warning, to fellow veterans, and to the community. Summary: State Farm will expect you to pay premium pricing, and still leave you with the bill. After two months of being neglected by the local office, having to make corrections with the adjuster on the value of my vehicle, and engaging with disingenuous claims handlers, I have just recently received a notice that State Farm is refusing to pay my medical bills. While I originally signed on with the company specifically requesting their professional assistance, and was willing to pay for premium coverage, it turns out that I might be paying for nothing at all. First, Chuck Swenson's local office has effectively shrugged their shoulders since the incident, and I can only get the impression that they are attempting at each turn to punt the problem down the road. They have only reached out to me once, to ask me how my claim is proceeding. As a local office, they have seemed ignorant of the status of my recovery, and worse, of my claim. Second, when I received the notice that my motorcycle had been considered a total loss, the company attempted to value my vehicle at half the current market value as my vehicle is equipped. That is correct. Half. At first I believed that they had the wrong vehicle. The company's lack of knowledge of the industry became apparent when the adjuster confused my $1600 panniers made by touratech with some $50 knock-off pelican cases supposedly bolted to the frame. Every attempt to make corrections, whether by phone or by email, was received by State Farm with the blank stare of indifference. After four weeks, this became clear that State Farm was attempting to ignore my corrections, and ignore the fact that they had confused my vehicle with another one. A pattern emerged, I would have to initiate contact, and like clockwork, the voice on the phone would make some vague statement about how their team couldn't receive the email, couldn't open a link, couldn't view a picture, or couldn't read what was written. The interaction effectively resembled a conversation between two people, where one person simply plugged their ears and closed their eyes whenever they received information supporting the other's claim. Finally, on top of all the delays, after forwarding the medical bills to State Farm, I have received a statement that State Farm's comprehensive (read: full) coverage, does not include medical in the case of my injuries. This problem comes with a specific bite, as I first signed on with State Farm in 2013, as a recent veteran. At the time that I approached Chuck Swenson state farm, I had only been out of the military for four months, and in the process of adjusting and finding out the extent of my disabilities, I knew that I wanted to ensure I had the best coverage of my vehicle and myself in the case that the worst would happen. I was clear to Chuck Swenson's office that I needed full coverage on myself and my vehicle, and it comes as a betrayal to discover that the statement "bodily injury" listed on my annual statement does not cover my body. While I recognize that it is my responsibility to fully understand the language and nature of the policy, it at least appears predatory when I approached Chuck Swenson's office aware of my deficiencies in information, and requested their professional assistance to acquire the best coverage possible, only to discover, after the worst had happened, that my policy somehow doesn't cover exactly what I requested it to cover. To summarize, I chose state farm because I expected their premiums, which I knew trended higher then their competition, to reflect superior service, courtesy, and clarity. Instead, the local office has ignored me, and leaves the impression that they are willing to take advantage of transitioning veterans. All the while, if an incident occurs, expect State Farm to feign ignorance when you send them information that might require them to comprehend the value of your loss.
