Unfortunately not a good experience. This is unlike most reviews, so I am guessing it was just a one off chance, but unfortunately it was bad service and not great food. Waitress was unwelcoming, short, and rude. Definitely felt as though we were an inconvenience for stopping in. Pizza was great, but the fish is awful. It is just frozen fish you buy from the grocery store. Overpriced and not good. Granted it isn't their specialty so it is a chance you take. Sad it was not a great experience, but based off others reviews you will hopefully have better luck than we did.

The wait staff was friendly and pleasant to talk to. The food and drinks were excellent at a fair price. Plenty of selection on the menu, they serve traditional Irish fare as well as items such as pizza. The atmosphere was relaxing and the decor was interesting and fun, I hope you like seeing dragons!

WOW! Great food and great atmosphere. I had the banger and beef with a side cup of their authentic Irish potato soup and my wife had Jack’s famous roast beef. All was delicious. I loved the homemade banger sausage and the pulled corn beef was the best I ever had. Wife said the roast beef was amazing and the bakery roll it was served on was really good. We had to ask how the homemade horseradish sauce was put together, but was kindly denied the recipe as it is a family secret. As I enjoyed a couple pints of their signature lagers, we were entertained by a gent playing the piano. After dinner... we just had to get up and walk. We wandered about the restaurant taking in all the unique pieces of furniture and awesome bar. Jack met us on the outside balcony and shared a little history with us. We felt as family! Unfortunately we only make it through Fountain City a few times a year because we live in central Illinois, but we will stop at the Monarch every time from now on. Thanks for what you are doing Jack.

I have never felt less comfortable in an establishment in my life, very rude, unwelcoming experience. At the end we were asked how the experience was and I gave honest feedback and then was told to never come back. Noted, I won’t be back.

We were there about a month ago. We were disappointed by the quality of food and service. The owner was not there that night. We loved it before. For the price, the quality and quantity of food was very disappointing.
