I have never had a problem they wouldn't help me with. I have heard Veterans complain that they are slow but please try to understand that they have a great number of Veterans to care for. The staff at the VA are great.

I chose three stars based on: If I was rating the primary care unit, audiology and pharmacy they are clearly a 5 star operation.However, the specialties group I would rate as 1 star. This is due to attitude and responsiveness.

As a veteran, I count on receiving excellent medical care. In my estimation, this hospital is staffed with some of the best health care professionals in the country. The Coatesville VA offers programs unheard of in the private sector, giving veterans the opportunity to change their lives and the lives of their families for the better.

My husband was seeing his doctor after getting chemicals in his eye at work, and I was in the waiting area where I was specifically asked to wait with my children, ages 2 year old and 10 months old. I brought a portable DVD player to keep them entertained and quiet. My son was laughing, albeit a bit loudly, at Tom and Jerry. No more than 20 seconds later a nurse came out of the room adjacent to the waiting area and asked me to remove my children to a different waiting area because they were too loud and disruptive and that the staff was trying to see patients and my children were disturbing all of them in the entire hallway. I have never been so embarrassed and aggravated in my life. My kids are normally extremely well behaved and the only disruption they were causing was laughter. This could have been handled completely differently and with much more decorum. I would have expected this anywhere else but here at the VA.

Would be a 5, but my last experience cut that back to half that. It was that bad. I had pulled out my back and was in a severe amount of pain. I can’t even describe it but I couldn’t move, I couldn’t roll, I could barely walk, couldn’t stand straight and sitting was just as bad. I can typically handle a high amount but this was beyond my ability to cope with. I could not even reach around to wipe my behind! AND I had a colonoscopy prep scheduled for that night. I went in, literally in tears, asking for help. Im terribly disappointed in their idea of pain management. Not only did they not give anything that helped for pain, they gave me a strong muscle relaxer which clearly had an counter productive effect on the prep. Ended up going through the prep in unbearable pain and to make the icing on the cake, the prep was “unsatisfactory” and I have to do it again. I want to give a one star based on that experience alone but they have other services that are fine. Just expect to stay in pain if you are in pain. It’s torture but you won’t get the help you seek. At least I didn’t. End of story.

I had only great experiences with doctors and staff. Everyone I encountered so far was professional, pleasant and extremely helpful. It took me a while to get used to it, since I more often than not have to stand up for the services I should be able to expect.
