I recently called this shelter seeking a safe place to go for my kids and I. Its a few hours away from where we live, but I was desperate at the time. A lady answered the phone and I asked if they had room for a mom and four kids. She told me to hold, but must have forgotten to press the mute button. I heard her saying this to her coworker “should I tell her she can only bring two of her kids?” They both laughed. She came back to the phone and didn’t realize I heard what she just said. She said they were full and then I hung up. I couldn’t believe that someone could be so heartless. She’s supposed to help women get out of abusive households. Instead she’s making jokes about battered women with her coworkers. My situation is nothing to joke about. She made me feel hopeless and embarrassed to be in this situation. A mother of four, with no where to go. I would never, ever suggest this place to anyone.
