Contacted them multiple times about renting properties and they never got back to me. Never answered phones or emails. when i rechecked the availability of the homes we were interested in the next day, they were all of a sudden unavailable. Communication would be nice.

Jane Beaman of The Knowles Company could not have been more helpful from start to finish through the process of purchasing a house on Mount Desert Island. Our landlord was throwing us out, while simultaneously offering a ridiculous price for the same house we were living in—one which, thanks to Jane's immense expertise, we soon concluded was on the verge of collapse (although after living in that place for a year and dealing with infestations of virtually every animal in the encyclopedia, we had our suspicions...). Jane rapidly found us a warm, modern house just down the street which cost less than the house our landlord was trying to force us to buy. In just a few months, thanks to Jane, we signed the papers, moved in, and now, six months later, we really couldn't be happier. While our previous winter at that last place was almost unbearably cold, our new place has been warm, comfy, cozy, and animal-free—all thanks to Jane! Jane was prepared and thoughtful throughout the entire process. Whether it came to navigating the paperwork and the legalities of purchasing a house, finding an inspector, or examining the new house multiple times, Jane made it look easy. The house we rented was delightful, it could have done with an extra arm chair in the living room. A pull out sofa and one arm chair was not sufficient for four adults to be comfortable. There were no supplies at all other than dish soap, a litt clothes detergent and hand soap. The reason for the low rating is the 30 days to return the security deposit. We paid what was asked , when asked by wire transfer and we were disappointed with the very slow return of our money. Mt Desert Island is Lovely and worth the visit but, make sure you rent through someone who returns money faster!!

Nick at Knowles Realty was a delight to work with. We were first time home buyers and had little background knowledge on the process. He always took the time to slow things down and explain things thoroughly so that we could make educated decisions each step of the way. He was realistic with the pros and cons of each property and each negotiation. He was patient with us as we made big decisions and asked fundamental questions, always responding to our emails and phone calls immediately and in depth. We couldn’t recommend him enough.

Trying to buy a house is never easy, but it’s especially more difficult when you’re 3,000 miles away. Thankfully we had the team of Mia Thompson and Lili Pew of The Knowles Company to help us with the task. From coordinating inspections to our final video walk through, Mia and Lili were our eyes and ears on the ground throughout the home buying process. They were prompt to respond to our questions and thoroughly explained issues to help alleviate any concerns we had. We are very pleased with the outcome as we love our new home and would highly recommend their services.

Our family had a delightful stay at Dream Cottage in early July 2016. The house is a friendly lakeside cottage, rustic but with everything you need to live fully and well. The love that the Frost family brought into this house over the years is evident in some small but important details, starting with Mrs. Frost's charming, hand-written "instructions" and her remarkable collection of kitchen tools, including an ice cream maker (Karen used it to whip up a batch of maple/cherry/choco chip). The view of Seal Cove Pond and Mansell Mountain from the deck is truly superb. The canoe and kayak are in fine shape--and it's a great swimming spot. Throw in the lovely flowers and landscaping and its quiet, secluded location and you have what, for us, was an ideal setting for a great time with our family. We're grateful to Mrs. Frost for sharing it.

We completely enjoyed our stay at Cove Point Cottage. The outdoor porch overlooking the sound was the highlight of our stay. We also enjoyed playing pool and ping pong downstairs. The house was filled with natural light and very spacious---for a family of 4 who live in the city with a small dog, closet space and 3 bathrooms was a real plus. We were within a short car ride to all the attractions in Acadia Natl Park and yet not bothered by the hustle and bustle of tons of tourists that visit the area. A true gem!

We stayed at their Southwest Harbor Port location for a week and have nothing but good things to say. The rental is separated with one unit on the bottom and one on top, both with great working harbor views and access to gardens and water. Both units were spacious and comfortable and the property is within a quick walking distance to downtown Southwest Harbor, and about a 15 minute to Bar Harbor and Acadia. It is a quiet location, great for relaxing but still close enough to do things. Down the street (near the end towards the coast guard) is a fantastic lobster pound with the best prices and food. So lobster + harbor view + great price on rental and space = one awesome trip. I would highly recommend this place for people who want some breathing room from the heavy tourist areas but still want to be able to get to everything. The hosts at the location were very nice and answered all of our silly questions about where to eat and what to see there. We will definitely be returning customers!

This past year, Mia Thompson / The Knowles Company represented my husband and me in the purchase of a wonderful house in Southwest Harbor. We found Mia to be a person of high integrity, sound judgment, and vast knowledge about all matters relevant to our needs (home infrastructure, the local market, contractors, etc.). She was especially astute in handling negotiations around purchase price: fair to both buyer and seller, and sensitive to both the realistic concerns and the feelings of all involved. We are also grateful to Mia’s partner, Lili Pew, who covered ably for Mia at our closing – and who also turned out to be a great source of helpful advice about local service providers.
