Feedback:

We've been renting houses for 15 years from them. No more. We had a beautiful oceanfront house. After Florence I began asking about the house. Less than 48 hours ahead of time they let us know we would have to settle for an oceanview not even close to a beach access. Their attitude was take it or leave it. We took it but will the last time.

Feedback:

My family & I have previously rented from OIA for over 10 years now, every year. We will not ever rent here again. I had a reservation for the week beginning the 15th. Hurricane was coming. I tried desperately all week to get OIA to work out other possible weeks for me to switch to prior to the hurricane. Every response was”oh, we don’t know what’s going to happen. You may be able to check in” We were in fact, NOT able to check in of course. I had already put in at work for vacation. The week passed by. Now, following hurricane, a week + later. I have called for 3 straight days to ask for a refund for the $1600 vacation we weren’t able to take as of no fault of my own!! & still OIA is doing NOTHING to help me. Looks like I’ll be seeking results legally unfortunately.

The best vacation rentals, at a fair price, you will be satisfied

We vacation here every year & they are the best rental service to deal with. Highly recommend.

Feedback:

When we initially walked into the house we rented, there was a young woman sitting in the bed. We immediately left and called the rental office. They eventually told us the girl was the owner's daughter. They promised she was going to leave immediately and the house would be cleaned and ready within 1.5 hours maximum. We waited for their call and after 3 hours I called the office again to ask if the house was ready. The woman quickly told me yes, it was ready. I jokingly asked if there would be a girl in the bed this time and she got confused and told me to hold on. Then she got back on the phone and without apologizing, told me the girl was still in the home but would be out within 30 minutes and the home would be clean within an hour. We repeated this conversation two times before the girl was out and the home was cleaned!! No communication among office staff and one woman was very rude and unfriendly, acting like this was not a big deal...just a normal everyday occurance for them.

Feedback:

Our second vacation here as well as the same summer house. The owners have done a FABULOUS job on interior design/decorating. Great for a family and/or friends reunion. Would give it a five but when we arrived the screen was severely damaged and the overhead kitchen light didn't work. Also, several lamps throughout needed bulbs replaced. All was repaired the following day but we felt this should have been inspected by management prior to new renters coming the following week/s. As for the screen, it only lasted for a day, the entire door needs replaced. Another complaint is the allotted towels per person. With the price of $3,000.+ for a week, I didn't feel like having to pay for additional towels (they charge $3.50 per set consisting of: bath towel, hand towel and a wash cloth). At least one additional set should have been provided on request. I certainly hadn't planned to climb up and down a flight of stairs to do laundry; this was our VACATION! Last gripe was check out time, 10 a.m. and all the list of chores to do as well before turning in the keys to the office. I requested a later check out time for noon which cost an additional $80.00. (which I charged on my card and never told my husband, but no way would that list have been completed). That's $40.00 per hour that I felt was extremely overpriced. Not to mention the fact we were previous customers. Would love to return next year but planning on a little more research for other properties. As for customer service, no complaints there. Very accommodating and friendly staff. They deserve the five stars!

Feedback:

This is my worst and only bad experience in oak island. I was rented a property that I would not visit if it were free. It was dirty and unsafe. Furniture that was pictured in the ad was missing. The dishes were dirty. The fans and furniture were dirty. One of the "four bedrooms" was only accessible by walking through another bedroom and had a washer dryer in the bedroom. We immediately contacted oak island Accommodations and requested relocation. They had nowhere suitable for us to go. We spent three days at their mercy without getting any information and never getting calls returned. I asked the agent if we would be charged for sitting there waiting on them to fix this. Destiny assured me they would never do that. After not being called back again, we packed the few items we had brought into the house to leave the beach and cancel our vacation. The days we were there we waited around on calls from Oak Island Accommodations. They held out as long as they could then just charged us full price for the days we sat there waiting on them to communicate with us. What a scam. They then refunded $700 less than what they promised.EDIT: thank you for the reply, OIA. Please know that vacating on Sunday and receiving a full refund was never presented as an option. Also please know that the options offered were a 3 BR house which was flooded and had the beach closed and construction equipment operating in front of it, a second row house with a green algae laden pool (I have a 4 year old-not acceptable), and a house not within walking distance to the beach. Yes I left two voicemails. I also called your office numerous times during business hours. I live in a different country. I trusted your company to provide clean and safe properties, therefore did not make a contingency plan to vacate immediately even had that been explained as an option. Where do I take my kids, parents and guests at midnight on a Saturday when we finally got there? You manage hundreds of properties and could not relocate us to a place without major issues. I’m not sure what kind of rental agency assumes the customer would be more successful than their entire team at handling issues associated with their properties. I also don’t think it’s fair to ask me to spend additional money to get us to another place when at no time could your office tell me any specific information on whether or not I would get a refund, and still HAS NOT REFUNDED MY MONEY. At NO TIME was vacating immediately and receiving a full refund offered. It was stated that while we attempted to resolve this issue, we would not be charged for the time we waited for your communications. I left because you wouldn’t communicate with me nor would you give me any specific information regarding resolutions. Beware, renters. OIA assumes once you leave the beach and go back home you have no recourse. It is unfair because they have your money already and the only way to get it back is through litigation. They try to wait you out, hope you’ll try not to ruin your family vacation, and just not have the energy to follow up with legal action later. Most renters are not local. They prey on that.

Great place.

Stayed at the Jolly Whaler. Do not recommend unless you're up to date on your tetanus shot. Also bring a respirator.
