Feedback:

Myself along with my family rented your property at 117 W 1st Street in Ocean Isle Beach, NC from August 24, 2019 through August 31, 2019. Unfortunately, our stay was very dissatisfying due to the state of the home and issues that occurred during the course of our stay. Upon arrival at the scheduled 4:00 PM check-in time, we found that the electronic door locks were malfunctioning and would not allow us access to the property. My wife contacted the office and eventually, by pure luck, the doors opened. The office staff informed my wife that maintenance would be out right away to look at and fix the doors. Maintenance didn’t arrive to the property until the following day at which time we were told that humidity was causing one of the doors to stick and changed the doorknob on the other malfunctioning door. After settling in to the rental property we began to notice other issues throughout the home. Door knobs did not open properly and the room that my wife and I stayed in did not lock. The door that led to the balcony in our room was loose and would not open or lock correctly. The bathtub in our bathroom did not drain properly; by the time I completed taking a shower, I was standing in 4 - 5 inches of water. The toilet did not flush properly and did not remove everything that it should have, even after multiple flushes. There were missing towel bars and towel bars that would fall apart the second a towel was placed on them. My wife was putting our son to sleep one night during a heavy rain storm, she noticed a puddle of water near our balcony door. Water from the storm was leaking through the door and onto our bedroom floor. We put a towel down to soak up the water. The storm didn’t last very long, but enough water leaked through the door that the entire towel was dripping wet. There were a host of other issues, the most concerning of which was the total lack of cleanliness in the home. It was clear that the home had not been cleaned properly for quite some time. The top of one of the window frames was rusted, the bottom tracks of all of the windows had dirt and grime so built up that it couldn’t possibly have been from only one week. In a number of the bathrooms, there were black scuff marks on the shower curtains. The faucet in the kitchen was so loose that it was difficult to even turn on the water. Outside on the deck there were a number of nails and screws sticking up that a few people staying at the home stepped on and were lucky to have not seriously injured themselves. The deck boards were so old and rotted that in some places you could see down to the ground below and had to be careful where you walked to not get splinters in your feet. The final issue of note is that during our stay the dryer stopped working. My wife called the office and was told that maintenance would be out the next day to look at it. When maintenance arrived, it took 30 seconds for him to tell us what we already knew, the dryer was broken. He informed us that the owner of the home is local so he would have to be contacted to get further directions on what to do. The solution that we were given was that we only had one night left in our stay, so “hopefully you’ll be alright.” The solution was unacceptable as we were preparing to leave and needed to finish laundry, some of which was soaking wet from the washer.I am not usually one to write complaints or post negative reviews and upon reading reviews before our trip, I was inclined to ignore them and see for myself even though there were quite a few negative posts. Unfortunately, all of the issues mentioned above in a house that we paid nearly $4600.00 to rent for a week forced me to send this letter and post negative reviews. If this is the way that Sloane’s rental properties are maintained, myself and my family will never be renting from your company again. The enjoyment of our stay was greatly reduced due to the condition of the home and it was certainly not worth the money that we spent to travel and stay in Ocean Isle Beach, NC.

Feedback:

After hurricane Dorian hit a few days before we were booked to stay here we were told we could reschedule to a different date. After I chose several other dates Laura decided we could come anyway even with the flooding and debris and muddy churned up water. My kids and I are very disappointed. Go somewhere else where they will do the right thing.

Feedback:

Sloane has managed our home for 3 years and as someone who works in property management they are APPALLING! They are not proactive managers and do nothing to increase or protect your rental revenue. When I spoke with Becky she said they had a “multitude” of complaints from our home however, our reviews are 4.5 stars on their own website. They have withheld funds in an illegal manor due to “software issues,” never have our correct rates listed, and move people to other homes after confirmed rentals. If you are looking to have them manage your home RUN!We will be looking at Williamson to replace their services.

Feedback:

Oddly enough my review from two days ago has disappeared. We stayed at 72 E 1st Street. During the second night of a three night stay it rained. At 4 a.m. we woke up to water in our bedroom. Had to use pots from the kitchen to catch water the rest of the night. Not a pleasant experience. Still waiting on response from the agency.

Feedback:

Sloane has some of the best houses on OIB available to rent! Their customer service folks are very helpful and knowledgeable.

Feedback:

By far the worst vacation rental agency in Ocean Isle. Avoid them at all costs. We rented a home from them that had 2 decks and a dock on one of the canals on Leland Street. The deck was deteriorated to the point that if you pushed on a rail, it would have collapsed. Additionally, there were pieces of the railing missing that a kid could have fallen through. Also, the dock at the place was in a state of disrepair to the point that we couldn't use it. The maintenance people from Sloane came and essentially condemned the dock after seeing it, putting up caution tape and telling us not to use it. They fixed the deck issues within a day or two, but it took 4 days to fix the dock, all days we couldn't use it. We obviously paid more for a home on the water and to not be able to use the dock for 4 of the 7 days we were there was disappointing. Sloane refused to compensate us for the loss of the use of the dock, had no sympathy for us, and overall were just jerks who were unsympathetic to the property they were renting us being in bad condition. They kept trying to blame the owners and said they weren't responsible for these dangerous conditions of the property they rented us. There are plenty of other, much better vacation rental companies in Ocean Isle. My family has been coming here for over 30 years . Do whatever you can to avoid renting from the horrible folks at Sloane.Edit: it wasn't recent Sloane special media folks who responded. But that's not relevant. I never said it was. Your company is terrible and I will make sure everyone knows about it. You shouldn't have treated your customers like garbage. Would you like me to share your horrible, rude emails with everyone too?

Feedback:

Our experience was horrible from start to finish. The manager basically called me a liar and after multiple times re-calling and emailing to get some sort of consolation they have chosen not to respond to me so here it is...At 4:20 (based on the 4pm check in time) we headed to the office to pick up keys - the woman in the office replied “let me check to see if it’s ready” she then returnded with our keys, reminded us about check out and sent us on our way. AT NO TIME WERE WE TOLD IT HAD NOT BEEN CLEANED, WE WERE NEVER TOLD IT HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED. That was the complete extent of our discussion. We head to the house to find it had not been cleaned AT ALL, and probably not well for a VERY long time. Trash and dirt on the floor, splatters of food all over the walls, dust inches thick on the air filter and all over every surface, stained and dirty couch covers, sand in the bathtubs and so forth. We immediately called the office, and they did send out 2 cleaning women - who proceeded to tell us how nasty the place was, and one of which that said she wouldn’t even stay there. We we’re also told it was after hours and they would do what they could with the time they had. They did work hard and fast to do what they could but by no means was it cleaned to rentable standards. (They also removed the couch covers and I was told they would bring them back and out then on with no disruption to our stay - they were never brought back.)I called and asked to speak to a manager while the cleaning staff was on-site. She was not concerned, not understanding and flat out rude. We spent a good amount of money and at least expect livable conditions. She said all they could do was have it cleaned (which it barely was) and that upon check in we agreed to bypass inspection - that is 110% false- after that she kept telling me that was not the information she was given, calling me a liar. To top it off upon packing up to leave I noticed a bag under the bedroom end table, thought it was something I had dropped, and it contained a completely mold covered watermelon!... that was not mine. Just to reiterate the lack of cleaning for some time in this property. I do have pictures of all the above.

Feedback:

When you pay a premium price for an oceanfront property (251 W 1st in Ocean Isle), it's disappointing when the property is misrepresented on the website. The primary window in the kitchen/dining/living area, looking pristine in the property description, was so defective that it was impossible to enjoy the ocean view. We never would have rented this property had we been aware of this situation. When we asked for a price reduction, we were told that "The owner does not feel a refund is in order as the condition of the window is out of her control. She has been working on this since January. Three replacement windows have been sent and all three were defective." False advertising makes for unhappy customers. Sloane's website should show the true condition of the properties they represent.Another issue was their refusal to repair an unattached ladder to a bunk bed that fell on both our grandson and our daughter-in-law, claiming it was not meant to be attached. We secured it with a bungie cord while we were there. To be clear, the window in question is the featured one to the left, with the brown patterned chairs facing outward. Sloane's response below implies that it is one of the lesser windows on the right.

Feedback:

Check in was terrible. We arrived at check in time to be told to wait outside while it was being cleaned(My wife and two young children are still standing in the front yard an hour later)The grass is knee high, none of the bushes have been trimmed, several where dead. Fishing line with tackle was hanging at eye level. There is a bin of broken and rusty beach furniture.

Feedback:

It was a very wonderful experience. Sloan handled everything very professionally. I would use them again!!
